Help flows into a flood of love despite multiple calamities

Absolute Pure Distilled Drinking Water (Help Flows)

The aftershock of calamities goes beyond downpours, flood waters, and tremors. More than the immediate devastation, the aftermath of disasters are often more destructive, especially when it affects the cleanliness and safety of the displaced population .
The Philippines is no stranger to natural calamities; in 2012, we registered the highest number of fatalities worldwide due to Typhoon Pablo . This year, aside from typhoons and monsoon floods, we also experienced earthquakes and manmade disasters, which exacerbated the lack of access to clean and safe food, water, and other emergency supplies.

To supplement the various efforts of Filipinos to aid disaster-stricken areas, the Lucio Tan Group of Companies has donated almost 100,000 liters of Absolute Pure Distilled Drinking Water to calamity-stricken areas in North Luzon and Central Visayas affected by recent typhoons and earthquakes. The Absolute Help Flows bottles come in 350ml and 6L packs to ensure that families and individuals are provided with clean water for drinking and cooking.

Says Dan Ong, Senior Brand Manager for Absolute Distilled Drinking Water, “Access to clean and safe water everyday, and most especially during emergencies, is necessary in ensuring that calamities do not turn into bigger tragedies through diseases. Absolute is on-hand year-round in ensuring that Filipinos maintain their health and peace of mind through clean and safe water, whatever calamity may occur.”

As a public service announcement, Absolute is requesting concerned citizens to report individuals or groups selling Absolute Pure Distilled Drinking Water with the “Help Flows” mark to their nearest DTI office. These bottles are allocated for disaster-stricken areas, and are not for sale.

Katy! The Musical Rerun

Spotlight Artists Centre, in cooperation with the One Meralco Foundation, proudly announces the second staging of its critically-acclaimed revival production of Ryan Cayabyab and Jose Javier Reyes’ landmark musical based on the inspiring story of legendary Filipina jazz chanteuse Katy dela Cruz.

Katy! features the same powerhouse cast including Tirso Cruz III, Dulce, Epy Quizon, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, Lou Veloso, Gian Magdangal, and Isay Alvarez-Seña in the title role

Rounding out the cast is an ensemble of prodigious triple threat talents, including Leana Tabuñar who plays the young Katy.

Still reeling from the generous reviews and enthusiastic audience response they garnered during the initial run, Isay excitedly shares what audiences can look forward to for this month’s rerun.

“We’re still sticking to the same script, but we’ve added five dancer-actors and four singers. We’re also utilizing bigger sets since we have a bigger venue now. We tried to make the sets more efficient for easier moving around the stage,” she narrates.

On a more personal note, Isay feels more confident tackling the back-breaking song and dance routines now after having successfully overcome her serious medical condition at the time.

“I’m raring to do the dance numbers with more gusto this time!” she huffs. “I was pacing myself and holding back a bit last January.”

With a bigger venue, Isay, as well as producers Robert Seña, Carl Balita, and Tricia Amper-Jimenez, feel that more Filipinos will get to know more about the legacy of one of OPM’s unsung heroines.

“I’m hoping people will come of course. I really believe this is one musical that every Filipino should watch, especially the youth,” Isay says. “Bodabil is part of our history as a nation. It’s a forgotten art form. I’m just happy we are paying to tribute to the great artists who came before us.”

Asked what else she hopes Katy! to accomplish, Isay adds, “My dream is really for Katy! to have a run for students. I am hoping that big corporations—kahit isa lang na malaki at may puso para sa teatro at kabataan—will sponsor this run so it can be a reality.”

With Katy! serving as their beacon of hope and inspiration for the local theater industry and for OPM music as well, Isay and her Spotlight Artists family hope to further their cause by setting their sights on producing yet another Filipino musical next year.

Katy! also features original music composed by Ryan Cayabyab and interpreted live by the AMP Nonet Band under the baton of musical director Mel Villena. The libretto is by Jose Javier Reyes.

Regular showdates are July 26, 27, 28, August 2, 3, and 4, with 3pm matinees for July 27 and 28, and August 3 and 4. Showtime is 8pm.
